“Covered Bridge Metric Century”

Registration Cut Off

The Lancaster Bicycle Club, due to the overwhelming response to our annual Covered Bridge Metric Century ride, was forced to limit the number of riders at future events.  In 2009, we accommodated over 4100 registered riders.  These numbers severely stressed all available resources, especially the parking and our all volunteer staff.  Additionally, this number of riders creates safety concerns.  Without the Club taking positive action to control the number of riders, we were faced with the threat of not being able to continue this long-held tradition.

The Club’s Board decided to take positive action to limit the number of riders for future Covered Bridge Metric Century rides.  We believed that restricting the number of riders that we could accommodate without stressing the available resources.  In addition, we wished to eliminate the confusion at the starting area by mailing out all registration material.  In order to accomplish these actions, we decided to cut off registration at eh beginning of July or when we reached our cutoff whichever came first.  This registration cut off date would provide our volunteers adequate time to prepare and mail out all material and also serve to control the number of registered riders.

We regret that we cannot accommodate all riders that wish to ride in our event, but if we continued on the path that we were traveling (unlimited registrations), we surely would have been faced with the demise of this great event.

If you were not successful in registering for this years Covered Bridge Metric Century, please look for our event next year and remember “register early.”

Thanks for your continued support,
