Toll Gate Tour (B) Nov 4
We had a good turnout for a brisk ride on a cold day made only slightly warmer by lots of sun and a steady cadence. Most of the group took off, leaving Carl, Christine, Steve and me at the back. Riding 36 miles with an interesting conversationalist (Chris) makes a ride go fast - so much so, that we barely noticed dropping Steve and Carl about 5 miles out. We waited, but since I knew Carl was planning to go off cue to pick up his car for a show that afternoon, I figured maybe Steve went along, so we continued without them. Turns out Steve had a slow leak and stopped to change a flat, only to flat again less than 50 yards down the road. Carl did, indeed, go get his car, but Steve rode the entire 30 remaining miles on his own with no spare tube, ever hopeful that he'd catch the group at a rest stop. Meanwhile, Chris and I didn't stop for a break (sorry, Steve!) and only got off cue once, when I had totally lost track of our whereabouts. Craig and Brian rode back from the end to meet us, and reported that everyone else finished without incident. Riders: Candae Deen (leader), Ron Mumma, Bill Ambler, Rich Wagner, Carl Kreider, Steve Schmohl, Tim Good, Brian Mitchell, Kathy Brugh, Randy Haluck, Lew Hershey, Craig Shreiner, Lou Gray, Christine Brubaker, and Dave Kessler.

Chile Chilly Buffalo Valley (B) Nov 11
Today was far from chilly!! The ride was somewhat hilly and we had plenty of chili. It was a great turnout for a York County ride. The LBC members included Brian Mitchell, Lew Hershey (sweep and winner of the crazy helmet award), Steve Schmohl, Randy Haluck, Carl Kreider, Dave Kessler, Craig Shreiner, Chris McLaughlin, Nancy Youst, and Kathy Brugh (leader). Non-LBC members included Ed Roth, Bob Gigham, James McCalb and Ed Hutton. Corey Miller and Lisa Howard stopped by the ride start on their tandem to say hello. Chris McLaughlin and Ed Hutton were an hour behind (they got the start time wrong, but they did the ride anyway and made the chili stop). It was a beautiful ride and a beautiful day. My thanks to Sue Clewell for coming up with this route. After the ride, the majority of the riders accepted an invitation to my house for elk and vegetarian chili. My thanks to Dotty Sheehy for arriving early, warming the chili and acting as hostess.

Butter Side Up (C) Nov 11
Who would of thunk it? Temperature near 70 degrees and the sun was shining brightly on this second Saturday in November. With 37 riders I thought I was leading an all class ride and it was obvious from the get go that the 13 mph pace was way too slow for most of this group. Other than one flat we all had a great ride. Riders: Don Whitehead (leader), Karen Drawbaugh (sweep), Tim Good, Mendy Sharir, Marilyn Gelsinger, Candae Dean, Diana Rollin, Bill Ressel, Ray Landis, Sharon Gilligan, Cindy Davis, John Donati, Laura Rozetar, Rachel Kreider, Dave Heck, John Mullineaux, Kevin Lunz, Steve Mentzer, Richard Drake, Kim and Matt London, Celeste Neuhard, John Leregg, Jim Drumm, Tom and Peter Hauser, Pearl and Jeff DeLong, Sarah Dempsey, Pam and Rich Williams, John Furry, Sylvia Newcomer, Christine Brubaker, Celia Millington-Wycroff, Wayne Millington and Debbie Kirchner.

Chickies Creek Long (D) Nov 11
It was a beautiful day for a ride. We had fun with the name game, but I think Gary had the most. Tim Good and his friend pedaled backwards to the front. Connie, Mike and I got back with 11 avg. Tim was just catching his breath. Harry did his job! Connie and a few others were happy I kept the advertised pace. Thank you everyone for coming out! Riders: Jim Drumm (leader), Michael Riggi (sweep), Harry Campbell, Jim Kulp, Candae Deen, Debbie Kirchner, Ray Landis, Connie Simmons, Tim Good, Linda Wagner, Janielle Willemin, Mendy Sharir and Gary Musser.

Finally!—A ride not being cancelled. A little cool, but finally no rain or gusting wind to keep us off the roads. A pretty good turnout, too. Riders: Tom Barron (leader), Steve Mazeski, Don Whitehead, Eric Evans, Thomas Hauser, Ron Mumma, Sarah Dempsey, Bill Ambler, Jerre Hockenbrocht, Steve Young, John Donati, Diane Lausman, Bill Ressel, Candae Deen, and Matt Dishart.

Lights of Lititz Nov 19
The 3rd annual 10 mile, Lights of Lititz evening, impromptu ride on Tuesday, 12/19/06 was a great success. Hearty thanks to the many riders and walkers who bundled up to participate and view the spectacular lights of Lititz. In addition to the required bike lights and reflectors, 3 folks added to the festive mood by creatively decorating their bicycles: Judy F. Gary and Tony. Thanks to Rodney and Verna Moseman for leading the cued ride, and also for your *Warm* hospitality including mugs of nice, hot chocolate served in your home. Thanks to Rachel and Harry (his first try at baking) for your delicious cookies and to Carol & Bill Weisser for your stuffed mushrooms. The "staff" is pleased that so many braved the somewhat cold evening to share the experience of "night riding." Let's do it again next year. Gloved hands made it too cumbersome for signing a waiver form, so the staff has put together a participant list and hope no name was missed—Gary Ballina, Joe Beatty, Jack Bingham, Harry Campbell, John Cardos, Judy Flowers, Lew Hershey, Alan & Judy Hurlbut, Carl & Rachel Kreider Tony LaRosa, Lloyd Melhorn, George Metzler, Amy Mitchell, Rodney & Verna Moseman, Gary Musser, Sylvia Newcomer, Alta Nolt, Andy Smith, Bill & Carol Weisser.

Annapolis Trail Ride (C) Nov 24
This was probably one of the nicer ‘Annapolis’ days in a few years. The weather warmed up very quickly and by the time we made it to the bathroom-stop we had to start shedding layers. The harbor was beautiful too and we all enjoyed a good lunch and a relaxing ride back to the cars. There can’t be too many more days like this one until spring. Riders: John Renard (leader), Don Whitehead, Brian Mitchell, Emily Sachwald, Nancy Youst, Dave Kessler, Eric Evans and John Mullineaux.

Roots Auction & Return (All Class) Nov 25
As far as I know, it was a pretty uneventful ride. There was a little drama as someone took a spill in the parking lot before the ride even started. Yeah, those clipless pedals can be tricky. I usually ride/lead "A" pace rides so this was new territory for me and I'll be honest, it was difficult for me. I am by no means the fastest guy on the road, but riding at a 13 mph average pace is quite different than what I'm used to. The group stopped at Stauffer's for a snack and restroom break and even though I wasn't actually required to stop, I did. We were soon under way again and enjoying a fantastic day on our bikes. Personally, my ride was uneventful until near the end when I got reprimanded for sweeping a rider who didn't feel she needed a sweep. She was actually angry that I was waiting for her. She said, in a not so friendly way, to go on without her. So I left her to her demise. Riders: Curtis Palmer (sweep), John Mullineaux, Tom Barron, Steve Schmohl, Rich Wagner, Damon Schlott, Harry Campbell, Tom Hauser, Dave Kessler, Jim Drumm, Don Whitehead, John Renard, Steve Mazeski, Ray Landis, Kevin Lunz, Tom Mellinger, Jeff & Pearl DeLong, Brian Mitchell, Rich Williams, Angie Galen, Mike Lutz, Matt London, Kim Lausch, Bob Colton, Marlin Hess, Flo Good, Craig Shreiner, Roger Sheaffer, Carol & Bill Weisser, Scott Wagner, Bill Ressel, Bill Ambler, Ken Lessans, Bart Torre, Will Good, Don Kulp, and Mark Buckwalter.

We were anticipating a nice sunny day but the sun decided to stay behind the clouds for most of the afternoon making for a chilly ride. We stopped at Freeze & Frizz but only a few chose to get ice cream. John M, Ray & Linda cut the ride short. We all rode together and had a nice time. 2006 WEB (Wednesday Early Brunch) Rides
A witty, enthusiastic, boisterous and fun group of folks continued to show up at the Quality Inn parking lot this year to pedal to breakfast and beyond…an average of 20 cyclists on most days with 30+ in the summer. The usual round of birthdays was celebrated with cards and special mention to those with “round” birthdays—Alan Hurlbut turned 70 in January; Don Lewis 70 in March; John Gantz 80 in September. January & February offered mild days for pedaling on the roads. On April 5th snow covered the ground with roads barely dry, but the hearty (Harry, John Gantz and Carl) were still willing to bike while the rest drove to the restaurant. On May 10th Bob McClune joined the group on his 3 wheeler (a bike he’s put many miles on throughout this year). After Lew Hershey pedaled around the parking lot on Bob’s bike, Lew was heard to say that 3 wheels really add comfort and the rest of us ought to think about switching. June 28 was a day after the County had received 12 inches of rain leaving creeks swollen and roads flooded. On Auction Rd. at Chickies Creek there was water on the road either side of the bridge. This did not deter John Peregoy from pedaling through water to the middle of his wheels. When no one followed, he safely pedaled back again. On July 26 the group rode to Floyd Landis parent’s home to get pictures taken with his sister and Mom and to sign the family “Tour de France” guest book. August 29, the group did a good will stop at Landis Homes to greet 95 yr. old Florence Thorn, friend of Bob & Judy Colton, before pedaling to Chimney Corners for breakfast. Later that same day some of that group stopped at Brethren Village to visit John Gantz, who is recovering from a broken elbow…yes, it was a biking accident. September 27th the group celebrated John Gantz’s 80th, but he was not at home to blow out the many candles on the special Tastykake prepared by Rachel. 2006 WEB riders were: Judy & Alan Hurlbut, Carl & Rachel Kreider, Rodney & Verna Moseman, Gail & Steve Brainard, John Mullineaux, John Gantz, John Peregoy, Celeste Newhart, Harry Campbell, Lou Gray, Lew Hershey, Jake Myers, Harold Fulmer, Sylvia Newcomer, Eileen Crone, Carol & Bill Weisser, Bill Ressel, Barry & Marilyn Gelsinger, Barb Koppenhafer, Mary Stadden, Jim Payton, Jim Drumm, Dan Fox, Doug & Peg Stark, Bob Brader, Bob Randolph, Bob Colton, Marcia McCarty, Ellen & Everett Newswanger, Marilyn Hahn, Ron & Mary Jo Dillon, Peter Van Horn, George Dull, Linda & Phil Wright, Rich Norcutt, Irene Camp, Jack Warlick, Dottie Sheehy, Bob McClune, Diane Moseman, Al Savage, Jack White, Florence Good, Barb Burkhart, John Rohrkemper, Angie Swarm, John Renard, Linda & Rich Wagner, Randy Haluck, Madi & Aaron Hurlbut, Nora & Will McPeak, Tony LaRosa, Jill McKenzie, Don & Sue Lewis, David Wise, Alta Nolt, Richard Sulkes, Vicky Scott, Mark Kaufman, Don Slick, Janelle Wilhelm, Candae Deen, Larry Sherman, Thang Nguyen, Harold Baughman, Dot Holbrook and Ankur Sadhukhan.
