Beautiful 40 degree February day. Only 2 riders. Curtis Palmer (leader) and Damon Schlott showed up for this challenging and very hilly ride designed by Damon. Very enjoyable 28 mile route through upper Lancaster County. If you want to challenge yourself, this is the ride for you.

CVHS-NH-Airport (Impromptu) Feb 12
I'm not surprised only two other riders showed up for this ride. The afternoon became dark and very windy. Overall a very enjoyable ride. We rode together in the strong headwind (which was most of the ride) and managed a 16.5 mph average over the 38 mile ride. Riders: Curtis Palmer (leader), Andrew Mead and Brian Mitchell.

Giro d' Earl (Impromptu) Feb 13
A beautiful February day for a ride. Temperature was 40ish with a 5 to 10 mph head wind on the return trip, which everyone took turns at the front poking a hole in it. No spills, no flats. The ride was posted as 16 mph ride and finished with a 16.6 mph average. Riders: Damon Schlott (leader), John Donati, Diane Lausman, Judith Sharp, Curtis Palmer, and Mike Lutz.

Chickies Creek Long (Casual) Feb 19
I hope I am not a jinx, but every ride I had lead it has been below 20°. At 7 miles we had to stop at the Sheetz so Harry could get his raisin cookie and to warm up. We had another stop for a clothing adjustment. Harry took off his gloves to help Randy then Harry needed help to put his gloves back on. Jeff DeLong (leader), Harry Campbell, Randy Haleck, John Gantz, Pat Casey (non-member).

Down on the Farm (Casual) Feb 20
All dressed for the occasion-cold. However, the cheers for Ray's birthday warmed our spirits. The 8 way donut hit the spot. Riders: Harry Campbell, (leader), Tim Good, Ray Landis, Alan Hurlbut, Judy Hurlbut, Tom Mellinger, John Gantz and John Cardos.

Tom's Special (Casual) Feb 26
Four brave soles showed up for a ride 2 days after a 5-7 inch snowstorm. It was 27 degrees at the start but the roads were fairly clear and the wind light. We enjoyed a pleasant ride on a bright sunny morning. Riders: Tom Mellinger (leader), Steve Holland, Pearl DeLong and Jeff DeLong.

Historic Strasburg (Casual) Feb 26
Sun was shining. Temperatures were moderate. Roads were mostly dry. On the whole, it wasn't a bad day for cycling in February. Where were all the cyclists? Leader: Andrew Mead.

Muggles Meander Feb. 27
It was 25 degrees when we left home at just after 9:00 am and slightly higher when we began our scheduled ride from Lancaster Catholic with 10 other "Polar Bears". The leader and two others maintained a pace of just under 12 versus the advertised pace of 11. The other 8 riders were way off pace and consequently cannot get credit for doing this ride!! Shame on them!! No muse, no fuss and no problems on the ride, although we did encounter several spots of "black ice", but no mishaps. All-in-all, a good ride on a very brisk morning, preparatory to Ray Landis's afternoon impromptu. Riders: Alan Hurlbut (leader), Judy Hurlbut (sweep), Gary Musser (all get credits), Jim Payton, Ray Landis, John Gantz, Steve Holland, Tom Hodges, Bill Crawford, Tim Good and Tom Mellinger, for no credits due to excessive speed!!

Historic Lititz (Casual) Mar 5

New Holland Long (B)  Mar 5

Riders:  Brian Mitchell (leader), Steve Brainard, Tim Good, Angela Swarm, Paul Swarm, and Curtis Palmer.

Advanced Picnic Ride (B) Mar 6
The morning began sunny, slightly breezy, with temps in the upper 30's, but by the time this B ride was a few miles in, the sun had faded and the wind began to blow hard. For the 7 riders that began this ride, it turned into 2 hours of strong head winds. For an all too brief period we had the wind at our backs and after fighting for many miles, it was a welcome change. It was a beautiful day for a ride and there was much conversation about upcoming rides and events. We finished with a 16.7 MPH average on this hilly 40 mile ride. Members riding were Curtis Palmer (leader), Matt London, John Donati, Ken Lessans, Scott Wagner, Damon Schlott and future member Pat Casey.

Maytown Circle (Casual) Mar 6
We finally had a day when the temperature was close to 50 degrees; however, 4 miles on Bossler Road into a 25 mph headwind made things interesting. You know it was windy when you must pedal to go downhill. Riders: Tom Mellinger (leader), Bill Crawford, Bob Breden, and Joe Sears.

Center Square Sojourn (B)  Mar 12

The inaugural edition of the Center Square Sojourn was attended by a few hearty and stalwart souls who chose to brave the predicted cold temperatures and breezy conditions. It was sunny for the first few miles but Old Man Winter soon let us know that he still needed to be reckoned with. The stated pace of 13 mph was quickly bumped up to approximately 14.5 mph. This was most likely due to the riders wanting to become warm and stay warm. The ride split into two groups about halfway through the effort with the lead group deciding to forego the planned break at Oregon Dairy in the interest of not becoming chilled. The ride ended up being about 26 miles as opposed to the stated 30. Special thanks to Ron Hays for the complimentary Power Bars he brought for everyone-Good Stuff!  Note: With a few “tweaks” this ride will become at the very least a monthly event during the season. Stay tuned for another new ride: The “Fat Man’s Frolic” will take us through the Lampeter area and have something for just about everybody!   Club Members:  Tom Hodges (Leader), Tim Good,  John Donati, Diane Lausman, Bob Colton, and Non-Club Member:  Ron Hays   No Sweep.Sorry! I’ll make sure I have one next time.

Farmland Meander (B) Mar 12
Riders: Mike Lutz (leader), Paul Swarm, Paul Smeltz, and non-LBC members Todd Binkley, Jason Binkley and Ron Herr.

Tour de Marietta (B) Mar 13
A beautiful morning for a ride. The sun was shining and there was only a slight breeze with temps right around 40 degrees. A casual ride was leaving at the same time as the B ride and it was so nice to see so many cyclists. Spring is in the air and many of us during the ride talked about finally be able to shed the many layers of winter clothing. 7 riders began this B ride with 2 getting dropped early and the remaining 5 of us finishing together. This is a fine ride to downtown Marietta, which, by the way, is the town I grew up in. I spent many hours of my youth racing up and down main street. Ahhh, the good old days... Riders were Curtis Palmer (leader), Damon Schlott, Brian Mitchell, Matt London, John Donati, Barry Lavender and Scott Wagner.

Rapturous Ride (Casual)                                                           Mar 19

The clear skies, calm winds, and relatively warm temps. (40ish) brought out a huge crowd of riders today. Everything was going along fine until about the nine mile mark. As I was riding near the back of the pack I was struck from behind by a truck hauling a wide farm implement of some kind. It caught me in the left butt cheek and calf which sent me sailing off the road at a pretty good clip. But I am proud to say I was able to keep my stead under control and make it back to the road without crashing. The driver either did not know or did not care that he hit me, because he just kept on trucking. From there I was able to continue the ride which I ended up leading from the rear of the pack. Riders: Damon Schlott (Leader), Dottie Sheehy (Sweep), Jim Payton, Ray Landis, John  Cardos, Bob Brady, Lew Hershey, John Mullineaux, John Renard, Kathy Brugh, Candae Deen, Rich Wagner, Jeff DeLong, Pearl DeLong, Tom Mel1inger, Mary Stadden, Steve Schmohl, Jim Wentz, Dave Heck, Lisa Heck, Harry Campbell, and John Gantz.

Center Square Sojourn (B)                                                     Mar 19

The weather was perfect for a bike ride considering it was the last day of winter. Many of the folks who participated had ridden a club ride in the morning so the pace was somewhat quick as opposed to blistering. The group was kind enough to wait up for stragglers and enjoyed the route. The leader and the sweep were the only riders that chose to partake in the planned stop for frozen delights at the Oregon Dairy towards the end of the ride. Perhaps we'll have more company on Dairy's deck once the weather gets warm and stays warm.  Riders:  Tom Hodges (leader), Ellen Koppenhafer (sweep), John Gantz, Ray Landis, John Renard, Kathy Brugh, Brian Mitchell, Tim Good, and Bill Ressel.

Meadow View (B) Mar 19
Riders: Mike Lutz (leader), Tim Good, Brian Mitchell, Matt London, Cindy Davis, Craig Shreiner, Andrew Mead Bob Colton, Heidi Hendrix, Ed Fearnow, Bobbi Fearnow, and non-LBC member Ron Herr.

Brownstown Long (B)                                                                 Mar 20

Overnight rain and sporadic showers at the start were enough to convince this ride leader to leave the bike at home and drive to the start to check things out.  Having ridden the day before, I knew that every farmer in the area had cleaned barns and plowed fields, leaving the roads covered with all manner of “good earthy farm dirt” which had turned into a slick mud paste overnight.  Surely no others would show on such a dreary day.  Imagine my surprise when I arrived to find three very dedicated LBC riders awaiting cue sheets.  I signed them up, gave them cues, and sent them into the afternoon drizzle.  Good luck to the adventurous riders!  Riders:  Curtis Palmer, Brian Sowatsky, and Damon Schlott.  Cue sheet distributor and reporter:  Andrew Mead.

Chickies Creek Long (Casual)                                              Mar 20

First day of spring, wet, muddy roads.  Jim Payton and David Flowers showed but took one look at my wet, dirty bike and me.  No one rode but me.  Harry Campbell called but stayed home and read a book.  After my ride, I spent the afternoon cleaning my bike and clothes.  Riders:  Judy Flowers (leader) and three smart men that stayed clean and dry.

Ride to Manheim Long (Casual)                                             Mar 26

Riders:  Karen Drawbaugh (leader), Jim Payton, Steve Snyder, Dottie Sheehy, Ray Landis, Steve Holland, Harry Campbell, Anne Schleef, John Gantz, Kim Lausch, Jim Wentz, John Mullineaux, Mary Stadden, Jeff DeLong, Pearl DeLong, Lou Gray, Paul Benham, Barry Gelsinger, Tom Mellinger, and Carol Weisser.

Roots Market & Return (B)                                                    Mar 26

Riders:  Brian Mitchell (leader), Candae Deen, Todd Walter, Tim Good, John Donati, Diane Lausman, Matt London, Jerry Wisnosky, Paul Smeltz, Andrew Mead, Joe Bolek, and Bill Ressel.

Landisville Casual                                                                      Mar 27

A good turnout for an Easter Sunday morning.  The Easter Bunny showed up prior to the ride and left candy for all.  There was a very special treat, a chocolate bunny for Ray!  Riding was great, the weather fine, but those Back Run hills don’t get any smaller.  Riders:  Jim Payton (leader), Ray Landis, Steve Holland, John Gantz, Tom Mellinger, Kim Lausch, Mary Stadden, Lou Gray, Randy Haluck, and Dave Kessler.
