LBC Rides from the Past - September 2004
Oregon Dairy Special Sept 1 For a change in routine, we
decided to do the ride in the opposite direction. We also eliminated part of
the route due to ongoing road construction. As we ate our ice cream, we
discussed the current news concerning Floyd Landis and his several contract
offers for next year. We also hoped that he would have another "meet and
greet," similar to the one last winter. On the trip back Greg graced against
the tandem team of Andrew and Brooke. With Brooke pouring on the coal, Greg
didn't stand a chance. Riders: Gary Musser (Rider Leader), Pat Kruse, Judy
Flowers, Carol Young, Brian Winn, Andrew Mead, Brooke Mead, James Thomas, Greg
Paulson, Alan Hurlbut, Judy Hurlbut, Ellen Newswanger and Everett
Newswanger.
D Signed for Lunch Sept 4 Beautiful ride for the first
day of Labor Day weekend. Everyone rode together enjoying results of the
summer's growing effort: lush field crops and beautiful flower gardens. Arrived
back at Hennigans too early for lunch. Riders: Judy Hurlbut (Ride Leader), Anne
Schleef, Harry Campbell, Chuck Wissing, John Peregoy, Alan Hurlbut, Kim
Manning, Henry Manning, J.T. Catlett, and Janielle Willemin.
Terre Hill Ride Sept 4 What a great turn out on such a
beautiful day, 27 club riders and 4 guests. It was suggested that anyone who
wanted to take the "hill" out of Terre Hill could follow John Mullineaux and
the rest would stay on cue. Around the 7-mile mark John and his band of merry
marauders stopped for, shall we say, "personal reasons." They were never seen
or heard from again. Kay Knepper and I biked onward to Sheetz's where we met up
with Joe. For the next several miles the three of us rode together until we
caught up with Diane who was checking out the intricacy of the local roadway
system with one of the native inhabitants. As we entered Terre Hill the lead
group was just taking off, not knowing that in a few seconds several of them
would be off cue and finding another way back. After our rest stop, we
continued on our way never seeing another club rider the whole way home. Kay
and Joe pealed off and Diane and I finished alone at 13.9 m.p.h. (advertised
pace was 14 m.p.h.) Once back at L.C.H.S. I learned Candae had a rear wheel
problem (broken spoke) and was given a ride back to the school by a local
resident. Riders: Don Whitehead (Ride Leader and Sweep), Ray Landis, Steve
Schmohl, John Mullineaux, Lew Hershey, Joe Paparo, Dave Kessler, John Gantz,
Candae Deen, Greg deVitry, Ed Fearnow, Bob Colton, Dale Buckwalter, Joe
Knepper, Kay Knepper, Matt London, Tim Barley, Sr. Tony DeNunzio, Mike Lutz,
Rich Wagner, Andy Charles, Dirk Suereth, Scott Wagner, John Hinchey, Chris
Merchant, Roger Sheaffer, John Renard Diana Rollin, and non-LBC members: Rick
Paparo, Bill Ressel and Kevin Binkley.
Cornwall Furnace Sept 4 Great day for a ride! Great ride!
No wind, but plenty of rolling terrain to keep our hearts beating at an almost
anaerobic pace. Groups came in at 19.7 and 18.3 m.p.h. Jonathan volunteered to
be chase police. Riders: Rick Lehman (Ride Leader), Ron Pfautz, Dale
Buckwalter, Neil Fickes, Mark Buckwalter, Ed Granger, Paul Swarm, Tom Hunt,
Barry Lavender, Ron Lehman, Marlin Hess, Neil Gussman, Tony Donati, Gary
Kintzer, Ken Lessans, Mike and Heidi Hendrix and non-LBC member Jonathan
Crothers. Rheems Relay Sept 4 No incidents. Great weather. Great ride. Come
experience the Rheems Relay and see Northwestern Lancaster County. Riders: Jay
Holstein (Ride Leader), Joe Sears.
Tour de Marietta Sept 5 We welcomed Bob Smith as a new
member to the club. We began with 7 riders. Part way through 2 left the ride
and then there were 5. After riding through Maytown the 5 became 3 and 2. But,
two miles from the end, because one of the three had a flat, the 2 caught up
with the 3 and we were 5 again. It was a nice day to ride to Marietta. Riders:
Lloyd Melhorn (Ride Leader), Bob Smith, Curtis Palmer, Damon Schlott, John
Peregoy, Celeste Neuhard, and Greg deVitry.
Manheim Auction Loop Sept 5 I can't believe that I
volunteered to lead this ride three times in a row. I think I was bamboozled.
Anyway, we had two new riders that joined us. They did a great job. I say that
because they both came in ahead of the leader. All right, everyone came in
ahead of the leader! Dr. Gay was on call. He had to stop a few times to answer
his phone. There were some comments made about one or two calls by a couple of
the riders. Due to the nature of the comments I think I will just leave it as
comments made. The weather was overcast which was a good thing-no sun beating
down on you also had a strong wind and, or course, it seemed like we were
always riding into it. Stopped at Sheetz for a break, got back underway and
headed back for Catholic High. Riders: Ray Landis (Ride Leader), Rich Wagner,
Don Whitehead, Steve Schmohl, Lou Gray, Dave Kessler, Emily McKeon, Angela
Galgon, Rick Reisinger, Tom Hodges, Sylvia Newcomer, Joseph Meszaros, John
Gantz and non-LBC members Nathan Doth and Bill Heistand.
A Short Ride to Intercourse Sept 5 Good ride, good
group on a windy, overcast hilly day. Riders: Tony LaRosa (Ride Leader), Harry
Campbell (sweep), Judy Flowers, David Flowers, Dottie Sheehy, Ralph Dixon,
Irene Camp, Bob Camp, Pam Klingensmith, Reuben Weaver, Steve Mentzer, Robert
Brock, Harold Fulmer, and non-LBC members: David Hommel and Carmen
Garcia-Hommel.
Labor Day Lament (A) Sept 5 A great showing of riders
for this annual holiday classic. Will be scheduled again. Riders: Paul &
Angela Swarm (leaders) Mike Lutz, Jon Lyons, Mike Nolan, Barry Lavender, Tom
Hunt, Ken Lessans, Mark Buckwalter, Jamie Clinton, Bart J. Torre, Bart G.
Torre, Pat Casey
Labor Day Harvest Ride (B/C) Sept 6 This ride was part
of the LBC Labor Day extravaganza that started as an add-on ride to the A-pace
Harvest Ride led by Andrew Mead. In addition to the 53 mile ride I also created
and printed off cue sheets for a 35.5 mile ride which I dubbed the Harvest Ride
Light. As it turned out, most of the twenty B/C riders chose the "Light" ride
leaving Jeff DeLong, Lew Hershey, and me to do the full monty. The two groups
split up at the crossroads at Shoeneck. My wife was in the "Light" group so I
was able to learn that John Gantz led the group with assistance from Ray Landis
and the cue sheet which I had labored over was discarded like a bad dream. I
think Ray was overheard saying, "We don't need no stinkeen cue sheet." It was a
beautiful day for bike riding with plenty of hills. I even added a major hill
to the ride that wasn't on the cue sheet. Actually I think we all followed Ray
Landis up Durlach Road to Mt Airy Road instead of taking the more civilized
Eastern route to Shoeneck. Nevertheless, it was a great ride and I'm looking
forward to doing it again in October. Riders: Joe Knepper (leader), Edward
Gower, Don Whitehead, Therese Regan, Andy Smith, Joe Beatty, Ray Landis, Dave
Kessler, Jeff DeLong, Pearl DeLong, John Donati, Sylvia Weaver, Kay Knepper,
Chris Ripostelia, Jack Hohunell (?), Matt London, Jude Sharp, Bill Ressel, John
Gantz and Lew Hershey.
Harvest Lititz - Impromptu Sept 6 Felt like a party. In
fact, it was a grand LBC Labor Day celebration with 60+ cyclists gathering at
the crack of dawn for exercise and camaraderie. As the A riders departed and
the B/C riders departed, a phone reservation for the 26 D riders at the Family
Cupboard was being made. An eclectic group with ages ranging from 9 years to 77
years enjoyed and completed this newly designed 22-mile route. Lots of laughter
was heard around the breakfast table attesting to the group's jovial holiday
spirit. Maria (age 9) is in training for a triathlon scheduled for early
October. With her focus and perseverance she'll do well. Riders: Alan Hurlbut
(Ride Leader), Judy Hurlbut (sweep), Don Lewis, Harry Campbell, Carol Young,
Karen Drawbaugh, Steve Snyder, Jim Payton, Judy Flowers, Gail Brainard, Steve
Brainard, Pat Kruse, Susan Dellinger, Maria Denunzio, Carol Weisser, Sylvia
Newcomer, Celeste Neuhard, John Peregoy, Janielle Willemin, Irene Camp, Bob
Camp, Dana Hodges, Tom Hodges, Pearl DeLong, Carl and Rachel Kreider.
Harvest Ride--A-pace ride Sept 6 From humble beginnings
as a single A ride for the holiday, the Harvest Ride grew into a true club
event, with A, B, C, and D rides, mileage, and breakfast options available. The
A team left first so that anyone dropped would be picked up by the B group.
After a brief warm-up, the pace picked up after climbing Owl Hill Rd. The pace
continued to step up throughout, finishing somewhere approaching 20mph. Special
thanks to the Crones for pulling this leader back into the main group as we
departed Denver. Riders: Andrew Mead (leader). Ed Fearnow, Cindy Davis, Mark
Buckwalter, Tom Hunt, Marlin Hess, Neil Gussman, Dale Burkholder, Eileen &
Neil Crone (tandem), Jack Hohenadel, Scott Wagner, Barry Lavender, Paul Smeltz,
Pat Casey, Bart Torre, and Tim Norejko.
Harvest B/C pace ride Sept. 6 This ride was part of the
LBC Labor Day extgraveganza that started as an add-on ride to the A-pace
Harvest Ride led by Andrew Mead. In addition to the 53 mile ride I also created
a 35.5 mile ride which I dubbed the Harvest Ride Light. As it turned out, most
of the twenty B/C riders grabbed a cue sheet for the "Light" ride leaving Jeff
DeLong, Lew Hershey, and me to do the full 53 miler. The two groups split up at
the crossroads at Shoeneck. My wife was in the "Light" group so I was able to
learn that John Gantz led that group with assistance from Ray Landis and the
cue sheet which I had labored over was discarded like a bad dream. I think Ray
was overheard saying, "We don't need no stinkeen cue sheet." It was a beautiful
day for bike riding with plenty of hills. I even added a major hill to the ride
that wasn't on the cue sheet. Actually I think we all followed Ray Landis up
Durlach Road to Mt Airy Road instead of taking the more civilized Eastern route
to Shoeneck. Nevertheless, it was a great ride and I'm looking forward to doing
it again in October. Riders: Joe Knepper (leader), Edward Grower, Don
Whitehead, Theresa Regan, Andy Smith, Joe Beatty, Ray Landis, Dave Kessler,
Jeff DeLong, John Donati, Tyler Weaver, Kay Knepper, Chris Riportella, Jack
Hohuarell, Matt London, Jude Sharp, Bill Ressel, John Gantz, Lew Hershey.
Freeze and Frizz Is Where It Is Sept 8 Frances showed
up for ice cream,; however, brought with her, her friends, RAIN!! They forgot
their bikes so we had to cancel the ride. Riders: Harry Campbell (Ride
Leader)
Farmersville - Hinkletown Ride Sept. 11 Another
beautiful day for a bike ride. This was a fast group of riders and I eventually
assumed a comfortable place in the back of the pack. But there was some
unintentional jockying for position as several riders got off cue several times
during the ride. Dirk was on the ride and made a few mental notes on potential
cue sheet changes. And there was a short stretch of road that was packed gravel
which the ride leader had not warned us about. But it was a good day for a ride
and everyone finished the ride with a smile. Riders: Joe Knepper (leader), Dave
Heck, Lisa Heck, Craig Shreiner, Dirk Suereth, Damon Schlott, Doug Johnson,
Diana Rollin, Ed Grange, Rich Wagner, Emily McKleen, Kevin Binkley, Jason
Binkley
Donegal Springs Ride (A) Sept 11 At the start of the
ride, Barry Lavender offered a moment of silence in recognition and memory of
the victims of 9/11. Barry is a retired New York City Police Officer who
experienced 9/11 firsthand. Thank you, Barry. The ride was a fast and steady
pace. Around Marietta "International" Airport, I believe we passed the D ride
going the opposite direction. With 10 miles to go, Tom Goldbach hooked up with
us. Good group. Good pace. Good ride. Riders: Kyle Awkerman (leader), Barry
Lavender, Ken Lessans, Paul Smeltz, Mark Buckwalter, Scott Wagner, Brian
Sowatsky, Tom Hunt, Ken Stadden Marlin Ness and non LBC member Bart Torre.
Farmersville - Hinkletown Ride (B) Sept 11 Another
beautiful day for a bike ride. This was a fast group of riders and I eventually
assumed a comfortable place in the back of the pack. But there was some
unintentional jockeying for position as several riders got off cue several
times during the ride. Dirk was on the ride and made a few mental notes on
potential cue sheet changes. And there was a short stretch of road that was
packed gravel which the ride leader had not warned us about. But it was a good
day for a ride and everyone finished the ride with a smile. Riders: Joe Knepper
(leader), Dave Heck, Lisa Heck, Craig Shreiner, Dirk Suereth, Damon Schlott,
Doug Johnston, Diana Rollin, Ed Granger, Rick Wagner, Emily McKeon, and non-LBC
members, Kevin Binkley and Jason Binkley.
Back Run Ramble (C) Sept 11 Good turnout on a beautiful
day for a ride. Sunny and warm. Perfect day. Welcome Karl and Andy on their
first LBC ride. Harry treated us to raisin filled cookies at Sheetz., then
headed back to East Petersburg School. On S. Erisman Road, Harry's tire
flattened. The group waited, except Jan and Andy who had to get to Andy's
surprise party at Groff's Farm. Hope he was surprised and made the party.
Riders: Judy Flowers (leader), David Flowers (sweep), Harry Campbell, Chris
Merchant, Pearl DeLong, Dave Kessler, Tammie Calabrese, John Gantz, Steve
Young, Elaine Young, Al and Fern Dieffenbach, Mary Stadden, Tom Mellinger, Tim
Barley, Sr., Jan Solkov, Marilyn Gelsinger and non LBC members Karl Myer and
Andy Kauffman.
Schwing Ride (D) Sept 11 A most enjoyable ride on a
beautiful morning! One case of road rash, and two bent rims caused by road
work. Riders: Barb Koppenhafer (leader), Jim Payton, Phil Wright, Cindy Snyder,
Anne Schleef, Karen Drawbaugh, Barb Koppenhafer, Ellen Koppenhafer, Henry
Manning, Janielle Willemin, and Xenia M. Muniz.
Maytown Circle Ride (D) Sept 12 Riders: Anne Schleef
(leader), Joe Auchey, Michael Riggi, and Tom Mellinger.
Witness Ride (A) Sept 12 A good turnout on a nice
morning. I picked a ride leaving from Lampeter-Strasburg to provide a little
different view of the county. I modified the route to avoid some rough roads
and congested areas discovered the day prior while driving the route. Everyone
seemed to enjoy the new route which we were able to traverse at an average
speed of 19.5. Riders: Dirk Suereth (leader); Tom Hunt, Mark Buckwalter, Ken
Say, Paul Swarm, Ken Lessans, Barry Lavender, Tom Lyons; Non LBC Members: Pat
Casey and Ken Snyder
Penryn Pancake Promenade (B) Sept. 12 This was the
second ride lead of the weekend for me and another beautiful day for a ride. On
days like this you just can't beat the country roads of Lancaster County for
riding bike. This ride started at Conestoga Valley High School parking lot
where a group of bike riders from WGAL TV were also starting a ride. I pumped
up the tires on Susan Shapiro's bike and briefly rode along side Kim Lemon at
the very beginning of the ride. The WGAL team headed East at Witmer and we
headed North towards Penryn for pancakes. Yes, we did invite the WGAL team to
join us and I did invite Kim and crew to join the Bike Club. Maybe we'll see
them "down the road." On both B rides this weekend I rode much of the way with
new Club member Damon Schlott and on the Penryn ride Randy Haluck who I believe
is also fairly new to the Club. Riders: Joe Knepper (leader), Damon Schlott,
Jim Bair, Steve Gerber, Tim Good, Mike Lutz, Rich Wagner, Emily McKleen, Steve
Young, Bill Crawford, Randy Haluck, Craig shreiner, Bill Ressel, Matt London,
Scott Wagner
Ride to Manheim (C) Sept 12 Cool, sunny start to a nice
ride. Short rain shower as we got to Manheim, just enough to get us wet. Stop
at Molly. Welcome Heather and Katie on their first LBC ride. No spills or lost
riders. After everyone left, I rode home and had a flat rear tire two miles
from home. Wow, what a great group. Riders: Judy Flowers (leader), Harry
Campbell (sweep), Rick Shoup, Karen Drawbaugh, Jim Payton, Gary Forster, John
McKelvey, David Flowers, Mary Stadden, John Rohrkemper, John Gantz, John Furry,
Jeff DeLong, Pearl DeLong, Lauren Lane, Pam Tronsor, Marilyn Gelsinger, Jan
Solkov, and non LBC members Heather Kovich, Katie Schultz, and Andy Kaufman.
Witness Ride (A) Sept 12 Good turn out on a nice
morning. I picked a ride leaving from Lampeter-Strasburg for a little different
view of the county. Although the route was modified to avoid some rough roads
and congested areas, the group averaged 19.5 and everyone seemed to enjoy the
ride. Riders: Dirk Suereth (leader), Tom Hunt, Mark Buckwalter, Ken Gay, Paul
H. Swarm, Ken Lessans, Barry Lavender, and Lou Lyons (?), non-LBC members Pat
Cassell and Ken Snyder.
Middle Creek/South Mountain (A) Sept 18 Ride was
cancelled due to rain from Hurricane Ivan. Neil Crone bicycled to starting
point and met me while I stayed in my car. We went to his job at Ephrata
Hospital and discussed bicycling while he worked. LBC email service stated that
ride is next day. Only 7 people came because a minority of LBC members knew of
the rescheduling and weather was cold and windy. Five people climbed the 3
optional courses which is now called "Reuben's Challenge." It is a ride within
the ride and has its own cue sheet. I learned that some bicyclists do this ride
or part of it all year in order to train for the big day. But a word of caution
here: Avoid doing the optional climbs in the fall when leaves are on the roads.
Losing traction when climbing an 18 percent grade means bike will stop and you
will fall. Tom suggested that ride be cancelled next year if there is a light
rain because wet roads are dangerous for climbing. I agreed. Riders: Reuben
Weaver (leader), Kyle Awkerman, Ken Lessans, Craig Shreiner, Barry Lavender,
Tom Hunt and Ken Stadden.
Bareville Jaunt Ride (C) Sept 18 I woke up to the
remnants of hurricane Ivan today and at 8:00 am decided that there was no way
we would be riding at 9:00. I e-mail the club members and let them know that if
the weather was better by noon (and it was) I would be at Lancaster Catholic
H.S. to pass out the cue sheets for a one o'clock ride. Not sure if my e-mail
didn't get out in time, windy and cloudy conditions, wet roads, or a
combination of these kept all but one rider from showing up. Anyway, Cecilia
and I started out with the understanding that if the wind got to be too much we
would cut the ride short. Once we turned onto Horseshoe road the decision was a
no brainer. In order to do battle with the head wind on the way home, we needed
to refuel. So after a quick stop in Leola for pizza, we headed back to L.C.H.
S. finishing the 18.5 miles at 12.9 mph. Riders were: Don Whitehead (leader)
and non-LBC member Cecilia Good
Butter Side Down (D) Sept 18 Due to the effects of
Hurricane Ivan's path crossing the scheduled route of today's bike ride, I
cancelled it. Cancelled not postponed until later, because 6 inches of water is
standing on the road under the route 30 underpass, suggesting that the roads
along the Conestoga and her tributaries would be closed with flooding waters.
Riders: Judy Hurlbut, (leader)
Bowmansville/Shirk Ride (A) Sept 19 WINDY! Riders:
Marlin Hess, Dwayne Clinton, Dale Burkholder, Mark Buckwalter, Paul Smeltz, and
Andrew Mead (leader). New Holland Long (C) Sept 19 Windy, windy-in our face the
first half of the ride-clear and cool. We had tailwind to go home on. Gene and
Judy Homan rode sweep for us on their tandem bike. Great job. Riders: John
McKelvey (leader), Gene and Judy Homan (tandem - sweep), Rick Shoup, Dave Heck,
Lesa Heck, Steve Gerber, Matt London, Joe Auchey and Tom Mellinger.
Muggles Meander (D) Sept 19 Fifteen riders started, but
only 14 finished & 2 of those cut it short. Rumor has it that Ray's sick
jokes made John sick to his stomach and he had to go home!! Only incident
occurred in the Oregon Dairy parking lot. We had crossed over Oregon Pike at
the traffic light to avoid crossing on Creek Road, only to find that Oregon
Dairy had been taken over by race cars racing around the lot thru pylons. A
very nice fellow there tried to manhandle Harry without bothering to explain
what was going on!! His arrogance reminded me of that of the current
administration. Molly was on her first club ride & Bob on his second.
Riders: Alan Hurlbut (leader), Judy Hurlbut (sweep), Jim Payton, Dottie Sheehy,
Anne Schleef, Carol Young, Ray Landis, Harry Campbell, Bob Smith, Jim Bair,
Molly Bair, Pam Tronsor, Michael Riggi, Ellen Koppenhafer and John
Rohrkemper.
Spring Garden Ride Long (C) Sept 25 Good weather
continued into the weekend and this ride started out a healthy clip. A group of
faster riders gradually pulled ahead but at around 12 miles into the ride the
front group of riders turned around and doubled back. They did this because the
cue sheet called for a left turn on Amish Road but the road sign said Slaymaker
Hill Rd. This front group rode by the rest of us who had stopped to check out a
map. Unfortunately, one of our new Club riders, Karl Myer, decided to follow
the fast front group as they went in the opposite direction looking for Amish
Road. Karl is from Allentown and this was his second Club ride. Earlier in the
ride Karl told me he is a C paced rider. In the meantime, John Renard ended the
confusion for the map-reading group, by informing us that Slaymaker Hill Rd is
Amish Rd when you turn left up ahead. So the main group of riders continued on
cue but at about the 15 mile mark, Damon Schlott and John Renard turned back to
"rescue" Karl as we realized he probably would not be able to keep up with the
fast riders. The rest of us finished the ride and we were all glad to see Karl,
Damon, and John make it back to the starting point at CVHS. Riders: Joe Knepper
(leader), Tim Good, Rick Shoup, Candae Deen, John Renard, Karl Myer, Ray
Landis, Paul Benham, Mike Tshudy, Damon Schlott, Rich Wagner, Gary Forster,
Chris Riportella.
Strausstown (A) Sept 25 We had normal late summer
weather which is not cold or hot. We split into 3 groups. There was the
where's-the-fire? A-pace group averaging close to 20 mph. If the pace is over
20 mph with hills, I think the A should stand for Armstrong. The B-pace group
stopped for food and water. I guess the A-pace group stopped also. I'll never
know what everyone did. Because of road arrows, everyone did their own pace. I
was along at the back due to a flat tire and I had lunch at Trainer's Midway
Diner. Two people did not sign the sheet. The one person headed for home near
the starting point and the other person was spotted on the ride near
Strausstown. Kyle said he did this ride 6 times this year. Myself and other
bicyclists do it several times per year. We enjoy the low-traffic roads and
beautiful scenery. Also, on August 28 approximately 13 bicyclists from a local
church related club did this ride. Riders: Reuben Weaver (leader), John Donati,
Diane Lausman, Roger Sheaffer, Mark Buckwalter, Neil Fickes, Ed Fearnow, Barry
Lavender, Andy Null, Tim Norejko, Marlin Hess, Kyle Awkerman, Craig Shreiner,
Neil Gussman, Jonathan Crothers, John Glick, and Dale Burkholder.
Landis Valley Ride (D) Sept 25 Riders: Dottie Sheehy
(leader), Alan Hurlbut (sweep), Harry Campbell, Phil Wright, David Farrow (?),
Judy Hurlbut, Brian Winn and Pam Tronsor.
Rheems Relay (C) Sept 26 By royal proclamation, the
final Rheems Relay is history. Stay tuned for the return of the Rheems Ramble,
new and improved.
Tom's Special (D) Sept 26 Great group. Nice Ride. If
you ever have a flat-this is the group you may want to share it with. Three
miles in, the "flatter" was me. Many thanks to Tory, Jim F. and Craig for their
fast, efficient changing abilities. Everyone else patiently encouraged them.
There's to the group! Thanks! Riders: Karen Drawbaugh (leader), Tom Mellinger
(sweep), Jim Payton, Ray Landis, Steve Holland, Jim Forster, John Rohrkemper,
Ellen Koppenhafer, Dottie Sheehy, Michael Riggi, Cindy Snyder, Gene Snyder, Pam
Tronsor, Joe Auchey, Craig Shanbach, Tony LaRosa, Pam Klingensmith and Pat
Kruse.
Triple Play (A) Sept 26 Riders: Rick Lehman (leader),
Mike Lutz, Ken Lessans, Mark Buckwalter, Tom Hunt, Barry Lavender, Angela
Swarm, Paul Swarm, Gary Kintzer, and non-LBC member Kenny Snyder.
New Holland Dutch Ride (B) Sept 26 This ride started
out with 22 riders. When it was over I could account for 7. I hope everyone had
a good ride, I know I did. Riders were: Don Whitehead (leader), Dave Kessler,
Steve Gerber, Kevin Weber, Zach Wedler, Paul Yatabe, John Ericson, Cindy Davis,
Lisa and Dave Heck, Craig Shreiner, Rich Wagner, Joe Knepper, Angela Galgon,
Jude Sharp, Scott Wagner, Tammie Calabrese, Diane Lausman, John Donati, Cathy
and Howard Hockheiser (Phila. Bike Club), Tony Denunzio and a special cameo
appearance by Brian Mitchell.
Penn-Run (C) Sept 26 Before we left the parking lot
Nancy had a flat. While Carl was changing the flat he stepped in an anthill and
Randy had to finish the tire while Carl brushed the "millions" of ant off his
feet. Curtis and Greg soon broke away and we didn't see them again. After
enjoying the Manheim countryside we made a slight change in the route so we
could take a break at Molly's. We finished with a higher than advertised pace
but we all stayed together and had a good time. Riders: Rachel Kreider
(leader), Carl Kreider, Ray Landis, John Gantz, Lew Hershey, Celeste Neuhard,
John Peregoy, Randy Haluck, Greg DeVitry, Curtis Palmer, John Renard, Nancy
