STARTING POINT: Strasburg Railroad, Route 741, Strasburg, PA. DESCRIPTION: This is a very scenic ride combining both fairly flat terrain north of Route 741 and fairly hilly terrain south of this route. There are many Points of Interest for railroad buffs and those interested in Amish culture. Eating places can be found in either Strasburg or Intercourse. POINTS OF INTEREST: A. Strasburg Railroad (717) 687-7522. Admission Charge. Chartered in 1832, the Strasburg Railroad is the oldest continually chartered public utility in Pennsylvania. Passengers take a 45-minute ride through beautiful countryside in wooden coaches pulled by a steam locomotive. Open: May through October, daily. March, April, November, December, weekends. Location: Route 741, Strasburg, PA 17579. B. Toy Train Museum. (717) 687-8976. Admission Charge. A large collection of toy tinplate trains dating from the 1800's to the present in three operating layouts. Old time movies are featured. Open: May through October, daily. Location: Paradise Lane, Strasburg, PA 17579. C. Miller's Natural Food Store. No Admission Charge. An Amish run natural food store that offers almost every imaginable item of food and drink at very reasonable prices. The remote location of this store keeps much of the tourist traffic way. Open: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Closed Sunday. Location: Between Weavertown and Monterey Roads on an un-named but paved farm lane. D. Ebersole Chair Factory. (717) 768-8820. No Admission Charge. This chair factory was started in 1938 by J. S. Ebersole, who owned and operated the business until his death in 1971. Open: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Location: 101 Centerville Road, Gordonville, PA 17529. E. Kitchen Kettle Village. No Admission Charge. Started in 1954 in a backyard garage, This collection of Pennsylvania Dutch Shops now includes a craft shop, tobacco shop, cafe, fudge shop, bake shop, herb and flower shop and many other food and craft shops. Open: Daily from 9 a.m. Closed Sunday. Location: Newport Road (Route 772), Intercourse, PA 17534. F. Lancaster County Winery (717) 464-3555. No Admission Charge. A 35-acre vineyard and winery which produces 12,000 gallons of wine per year. Special festivals are held throughout the year in addition to tours. Wine tasting is offered as a part of every tour. Famous steam engines, plush passenger coaches and restored service cars are displayed on 1,300 feet of indoor track in the U. S.'s first building designed for rail museum purposes. Railroad memorabilia are on display and a slide show documents the evolution of the train from the earliest steam locomotives to the sleek speeding trains of today.
