Mount Joy Jaunt Ride Description

STARTING POINT: Donegal Presbyterian Church, Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, PA .

DESCRIPTION: The Mount Joy Jaunt covers the northwestern portion of Lancaster County and points out places of interest otherwise missed by a visitor to the Amish Country. The 40-mile length may be a challenge, but the hills are rolling and not difficult. Eating spots are sufficient, but after the Central Hotel and Brewery, other food spots may be unnecessary!

POINTS OF INTEREST:
A. Bube's Brewery and Catacombs, Central Hotel (717) 653-2056 Admission Charge. The brewery was built prior to the Civil War, when Lancaster County was known as the "Munich of the New World" because it had so many breweries. The museum, located below ground in natural catacombs, offers visitors a chance to see the original vats and wooden casks used in beer-making over 100 years ago. Open: May through October, daily. B. Donegal Presbyterian Church and Witness Tree (717) 653-1943 No Admission Charge. Built around 1730 by Scots-Irish settlers, this church is the sight of a momentous occasion in Revolutionary War history. In 1777, men of the congregation joined hands around the white oak which no longer stands, to pledge allegiance to their new nation. Open: Year round. C. Maytown-Marietta Airport Skydiving is held here on weekends. No admission Charge.

D. Donegal Mills Plantation (717) 653-2168 Admission Charge. An authentic restoration of life in rural 18th and 19th century America, reflected in the mill, miller's house, bake house and mansion.
